“Now behold, a marvelous work is about to come forth among the children of men. Therefore, O ye that embark in the service of God, see that ye serve him with all your heart, might, mind, and strength, that ye may stand blameless before God at the last day. Therefore, if ye have desires to serve God ye are called to the work.”
Doctrine and Covenants 4:1-3

Throughout history, God has always demonstrated His power through miraculous works and wonders, often leveraging technology to accomplish His divine purposes. As our loving Heavenly Father, He desires the best for us and uses various means to reach and bless His children.

In today’s world, social media has become a prominent and sometimes controversial topic. While some view it as dangerous and addictive, others recognize its potential for spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in unprecedented ways.

One remarkable aspect of social media is its ability to connect people from all corners of the globe. Missionaries, for instance, utilize platforms like Facebook to reach out to investigators, share their testimonies, and facilitate discussions about faith. This digital outreach extends the reach of missionary work beyond physical boundaries, allowing for meaningful connections and gospel-sharing opportunities.

During my own mission experience, I witnessed the transformative power of social media in missionary efforts, even though I didn’t personally utilize it. Hearing stories from fellow missionaries, like my brother serving in the United States, highlighted the impact of platforms like Facebook in reaching and teaching individuals about the gospel.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic further emphasized the importance of digital outreach. With restrictions limiting traditional missionary activities, missionaries adapted by harnessing social media to continue their work effectively. Despite being confined to their homes, they found success in using online platforms to share messages of hope and faith.

I recall a friend’s experience serving in the northern United States, where he utilized his Facebook account to connect individuals interested in learning about the gospel with missionaries located elsewhere in the country, demonstrating the global reach and effectiveness of social media in missionary efforts.

In essence, while social media may have its drawbacks, its potential as a tool for spreading the gospel cannot be overlooked. Through the innovative use of technology, missionaries and individuals alike can share the message of Jesus Christ with a broader audience, fostering connections and facilitating spiritual growth in ways previously unimaginable.
